A little about me...

Silver Roads is a collection of journeys. It began as a place to capture my overland adventures and will grow to include journey’s made by my family, both recent and many years ago.

There’s something very special about fleeting meetings and swapping stories. Language barriers can always be overcome with a will. The warmth and curiosity, sometimes tinged with bemusement or concern, of people I have met whilst travelling alone is wonderful.

Then there’s the satisfaction of sorting out the logistics of an overland journey. I’ve discovered that buying a ticket on the Russian railway website is very easy, you can’t take a bicycle on Swedish trains and there’s an excellent overnight ferry connecting South Korea with Vladivostok.

Summer 2019 is round the corner and travelling home by land and sea from Taiwan is looking tempting.
